Personality Type

I entered the field of psychology many years ago primarily because I am fascinated with what makes a person be the person he or she is. Birth order, societal influences, traumas, successes, personality wiring - they all play a part in making us who we are.

This last week a few of us from PUMP took the summer interns out on our annual intern retreat. We spent time on a ropes course, playing games, and discussing our Myers-Briggs types. The Myers-Briggs is one of the most highly respected and amazingly accurate personality indicators. I always enjoy watching people discover and share about those unique aspects of their own personality. And as many times as the staff and I take it ourselves, our discussions always serve as excellent reminders about our areas of strength and those that stretch us into zones of discomfort.

Introvert-Extrovert
From where do you draw your energy?

Sensing - Intuition
How do you prefer to process information?

Thinking - Feeling
How do you prefer to make decisions?

Judgment - Perception
How do you prefer to organize your life?

You can take an online version here. I'd love it if you'd share what your type & percentages are. This site doesn't have the best descriptions of each type, but there are a ton online if you want more (or I'll share what I have with you!).

I'll talk about my own type soon...

I remember the first time I took the Myers-Briggs test...it was AMAZING to read all about me and I could hardly believe how accurate it was!
Andrew and I talk a lot about our personality types and how that will play out on the mission field and in our team relationships with Jeff & Cheryl.
Oh, BTW I am at 30 weeks today...only 10 more weeks to go!!!

uflwtI love all this personality stuff too...fascinating...
To find similarities with others is a delight...but it is also amazing how those with our same "letters" are so uniquely different in how they express and function...
I am INFJ. I don't remember the percentages. But my score on Sensing/Intuition is so close I have to take a further test to zero in on that aspect more...and that test called me an idealist. (a characteristic Jeff and I share).

I loved doing this test as an intern last summer, it really helped me learn a lot about myself, and embrace things that I hadn't recognized before. I am an ISFJ, and I don't remember my numbers right now either. I am really glad you use this during the intern time, you do a great job leading this area. Hope you guys are doing really well and that the summer is off to a great start!

my Type is
INTJ
Introverted 44% Intuitive 75% Thinking 12% Judging 33%

Parts of the description are eerily on the money. Others.... not so much. the interesting thing is that i have taken this test multiple time throughout my life and it seems (though I can't prove it because my memory seems incapable of retaining this info) that each time i take it i get a different answer.

Last year at the Youth Minister's Retreat we took a really neat personality test - darned if i can't remember anything except that it consisted of us choosing one word out of a group of words that best described us. It was really insightful.

ENTJ
Well I don't know what I'm doing here with all you Introvert's, but if there is a party, I'm in.

Over the years, been taking this test since the early 90s, most of my numbers have flattened out--except the E. I'd like to think I'm growing by paying attention to the weaknesses of my personality, like having little regard for other's feelings. And that my self-awareness has caused my numbers to shift. But, I'm probably just getting better at taking the test.

"The ENTJ needs to consciously work on recognizing the value of other people's opinions, as well as the value of being sensitive towards people's feelings. In the absence of this awareness, the ENTJ will be a forceful, intimidating and overbearing individual. This may be a real problem for the ENTJ, who may be deprived of important information and collaboration from others."

Saw this play out in myself just the other night. Still have work to do!

ESTJ
56 Extraverted, 38 Sensing, 25 Thinking, 22 Judging.

i read about two sentences of each description, but was mostly just thinking "yeah yeah, i already know this about me!" i honestly think the fact that i'm high on the e and the s is almost proof of the fact that i wasn't surprised to be just that (if that makes any sense at all!).

my career choices were funny to me. it suggested i do the one thing i've never desired to do, and have left jobs over because it was my only next option... management!

the fourth career choice in the main group, however, was accounting, which i did for a decade.

fun!

Oh Man! Did I mention that I really missed PUMP. Anyway, I can't remember what my results are. I will take the test online a little later, but I think I am ENFP. What I do remember in taking the test every year at the retreat is that no matter what I scored, Ike would tell me what I truly was when he saw me. The crazy thing is that he was right. I love to observe and interact with people so this and other tests like it feed my fire. God bless you all.

ENFP's of the world, unite! We could take over, easy.

Although, we'd have to figure out some way of making the organized personalities do all the stuff that makes the world, you know, function and stuff.

Allan--The uflwt was the word verification that I typed in the comment instead of in the box where it should go...
Glad we aren't talking about intelligence tests here! Funny, the Extrovert mentioned it. All you introverts were just silently wondering...

Wow, interesting insight into the 'ol personality. According to the online test I'm a ENFP.

Typing the word verification might lead to an interesting analysis!

Cheryl, you absolutely crack me up! I had convinced Allan that one of your kids must have been helping you at the computer.
